As 2025 comes to an end, it’s the perfect time to look back. Speedway had a year full of big stories — in Europe and in the United States.
Below are MotoSpeedway’s editorial picks: the key moments that helped define the 2025 season. This is not every important event — just the ones that stood out the most.
New to speedway? It’s motorcycle racing on a dirt oval. Riders slide through corners, race four laps, and points decide winners.
February 1 — USA vs Great Britain in Bakersfield (A Historic Match)
Team USA faced Great Britain in Bakersfield, California — a special moment for American speedway.
Great Britain won 55–35, and Adam Ellis had a perfect day (he didn’t drop a point).
Why it mattered: it showed international speedway can still create “big game” energy in the USA.
September 13 — Bartosz Zmarzlik Wins a 6th World Title (A Tied All-Time Record)
Bartosz Zmarzlik became World Champion for the 6th time. That tied the historic record set by Ivan Mauger and Tony Rickardsson.
It was as close as it gets: after 10 rounds, Zmarzlik beat Brady Kurtz by just 1 point, with the title decided in the very last race of the season.
Why it mattered: it was a record-level achievement — and a championship finish that even non-speedway fans can understand.
September 19 — Patryk Dudek Wins the European Title (And a Huge Year in Poland)
Patryk Dudek became the first Polish rider to win the European Championship in the modern Speedway Euro Championship era.
And that wasn’t all: in 2025, the 33-year-old also became Polish champion both individually and with his club team.
Why it mattered: Dudek didn’t just win one big trophy — he dominated across different competitions.
September 20 — Broc Nicol Seals the AMA National Title in Auburn
In Auburn, Broc Nicol locked up the AMA Speedway National Championship.
Across the full series, he scored 60 out of 63 possible points — a level of consistency that’s hard to match in any sport.
Why it mattered: it was a statement season in American speedway.
September 28 — Toruń Wins Poland’s Top League After 17 Years
After 17 years, a club from Toruń returned to the top and won the PGE Ekstraliga title (Poland’s biggest team league).
It was a tight, dramatic final, with Toruń beating Motor Lublin, a team that included world champion Bartosz Zmarzlik.
Why it mattered: it showed how brutal and competitive Polish team speedway can be — even the favorite can lose.
October 3 — Hannah Grunwald Makes History in U21 Speedway of Nations
A true breakthrough moment: Hannah Grunwald became the first woman to win a world title in speedway.
She did it with Germany, winning Speedway of Nations 2 (the under-21 version of the international team event).
Why it mattered: it was a milestone for the sport — and a powerful signal about the next generation.
October 4 — Australia Wins Speedway of Nations in Toruń
Australia won the Speedway of Nations for the second time in history.
In the final in Toruń, the Aussies beat Poland in the most important moment — the race that decided the title.
Why it mattered: team speedway is all about pressure, teamwork, and one decisive ride.
October 25 — World Stars Return to California (City of Industry)
Speedway’s global names returned to California for a major event in City of Industry.
Przemysław Pawlicki won, finishing ahead of Broc Nicol and Artem Laguta (the 2021 world champion).
Why it mattered: it connected the USA scene with top-level world speedway — on American soil.
Speedway in 2025 had everything: record-breaking greatness, new champions, huge team finals, and real momentum in the USA.
