The first episode of our new MotoSpeedway.com series
We’re excited to launch a brand-new feature here on MotoSpeedway.com – “3 Questions to…”, where we spotlight riders from around the world and share their stories, experiences, and passion for the sport.
And for the very first episode, we’re starting strong.
Our guest is Hannah Grunwald, one of Germany’s most promising young speedway talents. Still early in her career, she has already earned major achievements, stood on international podiums, and shown the kind of determination and maturity that define future stars. Her story is all about passion, courage, and the endless drive to improve.
Let’s get to know her better — in just three questions.
1. How did your speedway journey start?
My speedway career began when I was just six years old. Before that, I had tried different sports, but the moment I sat on a small PW50 for the very first time, I immediately knew this was what I wanted to do. To keep improving, we spent a lot of time riding in Denmark and Germany.
When I eventually grew too big for that little bike, it was time to move on to a real speedway machine – no brakes and a gearshift. It definitely took some courage to get used to that new challenge, but after a few training sessions, I adapted quickly. My biggest success in that class was finishing third in the European Championship.
But that chapter eventually came to an end as well, and the next big step was moving up to the 500cc class. From day one, I felt comfortable on the bike. We train a lot and race almost every weekend, sometimes one or even two meetings. Now it’s all about working even harder, training more, and racing as much as possible so I can continue to improve.
2. What is your most memorable speedway moment?
My most unforgettable speedway memories are filled with adrenaline and emotions that are hard to put into words. One highlight was definitely finishing third at the European Championship in the 85cc class – a moment I’m still very proud of.
But 2025 took things to a whole new level. Winning the Women’s Gold Trophy was an experience I’ll never forget. It was such an incredible moment and feeling. Another milestone was winning the SON2, which brought our team even closer together.
And as if that wasn’t enough, I also had the honor of accompanying Team Germany at the World Championship. Representing my country was truly special.
Every one of these moments has shaped me and showed me what passion, dedication, and teamwork can make possible. I’m grateful for all these experiences and excited for everything the future holds.
3. How would you describe speedway in one word?
Breathtaking. Speedway is absolutely breathtaking because you’re drifting through the corners at high speed with no brakes. You have to show incredible control over the bike, and at the same time combine risk, speed, and skill – that feeling is simply fascinating. The closeness to the fans and the roar of the engines make the atmosphere even more intense.
